Just finished the last rehearsal of session #3 and it's certainly been an educational experience. Having a group this large has presented new and wondrous logistical concerns that are ripe with opportunities for character building. That being said I have to say that I'm quite proud of this session and the work we've done. I would like to share some of the things I've learned this session:
1. The larger the ensemble, the more important it is that the writing be done with coherence and craft.
2. That rehearsal markings are your friends and they prevent players from having to count 31 bars of rest.
3. That we can't have Stan and Matt O. solo on every tune.
4. That 4 hour long rehearsals aren't as productive as two 2 hour rehearsals. Players get tired.
5. That modern notation software cannot be trusted to create parts without errors.
6. That Brian Steever can sing lower than the rest of us.
6. That, when so inclined, Stan will leap from his chair and begin interpretive dancing.
