This experiment has taught me a lot. The biggest lesson was that I won’t be asking people to write 20 minutes of music in a month and a half again anytime soon. But everyone has come through beautifully and I feel that we’ve been successful in putting together a program that highlights each composer’s point of view. John Chittum’s refreshing use of strings, Russell’s odd-time Rubik’s cube of a piece, Peter’s honed sense of humour, and my use of computer loops all reflect our different personal styles.
I invite you all to come out this Friday and check out some of the freshest music being made in Kansas City today. Admission is free and there will be free beer if you get there early enough.
